Massage Therapy

Picture
 INTEGRATIVE THAI MASSAGE
Taking place on a pad on the floor, the client remains fully clothed and passive while the therapist manipulates their body positions into "lazy man's yoga" poses and applies compression, and gentle stretching to promote flexibility, circulation, joint health, etc. I apply leverage with feet, knees, shins, elbows and combining traditional Thai techniques for holistic integration with western Myofascial and Orthopedic concepts to treat specific injuries.

This massage can be  used to relax and restore the body's equilibrium, reduce pain and inflammation, release and diffuse  increase range of motion, acupressure, and full body treatments. Treatments may include the use of tools such as Tok Sen, a Thai Tapotment technique with a wooden hammer and chisel, and Gua Sha, a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves scrapping the skin with a spoon to release stagnation.

PRENATAL MASSAGE
Pregnancy massage focuses on addressing the special needs of expecting women. Specially-supportive side-lying and supine postures are used to prevent putting pressure on the abdomen. Massage will be more relaxing than therapeutic, aimed at alleviating the pressure of the low back and hips, relieving back pain, and can help reduce anxiety as well as improve labor outcomes. Thai massage is ideal for pregnant women and therefore my choice, although table prenatal is available on request.

MASSAGE FOR MUSICIANS
I have worked with many types of musicians over the course of my career, first massaging performing musical artists at music festivals and now with classical musicians at Avaloch Farm Music Institute. Many musicians end up with nerve impingement and pain, repetitive strain injuries, and postural misalignments from years of molding their body to their instruments.

I offer pre-show “tune-ups” for musicians before they perform, regularly scheduled maintenance to prevent repetitive stress injuries, and therapeutic massage for the treatment of injuries that come with the life of traveling and performing.

PRIVATE LESSONS, SMALL GROUP BOOKINGS, WORKSHOPS

PRIVATE YOGA LESSONS
Large studio classes and traditional yoga postures can be scary and potentially dangerous for a body with special considerations or injuries. Whether you have no movement background or seek to refine your pre-existing practice, private lessons allow you the time and space to develop a personalized practice based on your individual strengths, goals and needs.

These sessions will help you investigate your own unique postural conditions and together develop a personal strategy to challenge and encourage you and your body into a healthier, upright position using some traditional asana and a few more creative strength-based yoga movements. Much of the postural work is inspired by a combination of the Ashtanga, Iyengar and Synergy yoga systems.

SELF MASSAGE WITH A BALL
Just as often as people find they would stretch but they don’t know how, I am convinced people would massage themselves more if they knew how to approach it. Learn how to be your own massage therapist by utilizing easy tools at your disposal. By simply using your body, a rubber ball, and gravity, you can discover and target muscular pain or trigger points in your tissue yourself, which is an extremely liberating experience.

This information can be conveyed as part of a private yoga lesson or as a small private workshop for you and people you care about.

PARTNER MASSAGE LESSONS
Do your hands often get tired when giving massage? Do you wish you could give a more effective and less fatiguing massage when asked for one? Using principles from basic Thai massage, I can teach you simple and sustainable ways to massage another person, be it your romantic partner, family member, or friend. Thai massage takes place clothed on the floor, so you don't need any special equipment or oil.

Please Note: you must be capable of lying, sitting, kneeling or lunging on the floor, as well as taking weight on your hands and knees. If those prerequisites inhibit you, other table massage techniques can be taught that translate easily to working on a bed at home.
